Are housewives employees of their husbands? Is a husband supposed to pay his
wife? Does a wife pay a husband for a home and necessaries and probably some
luxuries her husband provides? Why do so many people try to make humorous
remarks about how housewives work so hard but are not paid for their services?
If a man pays a woman to take care of his house, she is a maid or a servant,
possibly a mistress. If a man pays a woman for her sexual favors, she is a
whore or a prostitute. Why is funny to joke about the hours that women work?
Why isn't funny to joke about the work that men do?

Nobody's going to be locked up. These aren't criminal laws, they're
civil laws, and they don't apply to individuals but govern employment
contracts. People who run their own business can work as much as they
like, because there's no way to control their working hours, although
most European countries do have laws governing when business have to be
closed.
BTW, we housewives work 140 hours a week, and the EU isn't bothered by
it. ;)
