RE: [ThomasSzaszDiscussion] Re: Reviews of The Medicalization of Everyday Life and Coercion as Cure
Hi Mira, As Dr. Szasz has just said in the Lew Rockwell interview, Democrats
and Republicans are the same when it comes to psychiatry's relation to the state
- both believe society's unwanted are mentally ill (schizophrenic) and should be
treated against their will because they are "incapable" of making decisions in
their own best interest.
Look at the outrage Dennis Leary got for his book on the subject of Autism -
and the outrage was from an out of context misrepresentation of what Leary had
written. Szasz's books have been similarly misinterpreted especially by people
with advanced degrees like Torrey. Also I think Obama would be more apt to
listen to E. Fuller Torrey (who has no problem with psychiatric coersion) than
to Thomas Szasz.

quotation marks are apt. Maybe we should send him one of Szasz's books.Mira
