I read about this experiment in Stanton Peele's book (see:
http://www.metzelf.info/Book%20Reviews/Diseasing.html) What the
researchers set out to (dis)prove, is the claim that alcoholics can only
control their drinking if they completely abstain from it. The
experiment was not related to the effects of toxification. The levels of
toxic substance necessary for that were not used in the experiment.
