Hello Newbie and Gang!!
Newbie, reading briefly your story made me freak out with all the
similarities. (compulsive eater from childhood...became obese in
highschool...yoyo dieter since 12 trying everything known to mankind
to go down; good or bad)
to name a few diets i had done previously besides being bulimic
throughout the whole process...atkins, L.A. Weightloss, several
weight loss clinics that would give a prescription for phentermine,
laxatives, the cabbage soup diet (yuck), slimfast.
gosh I can't even remember them all..lol. My heaviest was 240lbs, my
lowest 128lbs. I have been literally every size (from a size 22 to a
size 3)
since I had been trying to lose weight since I was very young, my
whole mentality towards losing weight was WRONG! I had always thought
if I find the magic diet, the magic pill, the magic powder, I would
lose the weight and that would be it! done finish! no more suffering!
Boy was I wrong... in my case it wasn't till I was an adult and
searched for answers that I came to realize this will NEVER end.
It's simple, when people come to me with ridiculous diets, my first
question to them is "Can you do this for the rest of you life?", "Do
you see yourself at 75 eating this way or living this way?"
If the answer is NO, then forget it.
Newbie you asked a question in your last post. This was the
question: "I always wanted to know how a formerly obese girl gets
through life as a thin person once she is ready to sign up for
membership in the "thin club." lol.
Just pondering that question gave me a headache, because there's so
much complexity to it. One I can't cover in one blog or forum or post.
Just the other day there was an ackward situation in my job, that let
me realize who I am when it comes to your question which is "a former
obese person who is thin", I will never be "Just a thin person".
If you guys must know the situation it was with A coworker who was
actually ridiculing and poking fun at another coworker to me for
their weight! Out of all people me! You guys could imagine how weird
the situation was for me. Trying to be polite and passive I just
tried to end the conversation quickly. I was stunned, I felt guilt
for not defending that person knowing at one time I was just as big.
I, like all of you, will always be sensitive when it comes to people
making fun of other people because of their weight. One reason is
because it's morally not right. But for us, it's different we are
more sensitized because we've been there, we've done that. And that
will never go away even if you are a size 3.
It wasn't till I changed my mentality, my lifestyle, my habits,
basically my life. Down to my feelings, that I got it. That's when I
got the VIP gold card membership to the thin club.
It's a membership though thats not easy, one with fine print(hard
work)...lol.

p.s. you guys must watch the show "RUBY", you'll fall in love with
her. I saw my first episode yesterday and i'm already hooked.

fighting for candy. Turkey day is around the corner though... so that's
a tough day to be good.
Let me tell you guys a bit about my situation i've maintained my weight
since summer 06. but now my situation is complicated because i've been
pregnant for the past 6 months. So i'm not as commited as I ought to be.
Thank god though that i've been GAINing weight at a very decent pace.
I've gained to date exactly 33lbs, and my obgyn is very pleased.
Before I lost the massive amount of weight I had prediabetes, but that
left once the weight came off. They just tested me for gestational
diabetes and once again i passed...yay! with wonderful blood pressure
to match.
I've been recommended to read Skinny bitch and Skinny bitch, bun in the

Hi everybody!
I confess to joining this forum pages away from finishing the book by
Judith Lederman & Larina Kase.
To summarize my story: I was a compulsive over eater from childhood
and became seriously obese in high school and onward. I did the usual
yo-yo dieting, hot fad diets, etc.
Finally, due to my obesity, I had to have my gallbladder removed over
a year ago. I went on a vegan/vegetarian diet since for months after
my gallbladder surgery I couldn't handle digesting meat. Along with
exercise, I dropped 101 lbs in 7 months (FYI: it was not a starvation
diet and my caloric intake was carefully monitored. I'm just pretty
seriously overweight. I can now eat lean cuts of poultry/game meats.)
I've since spent nearly a decade in therapy resolving many of my
issues surrounding food and weight problems. In this last major
weight loss of 101 lbs in January of 2008, I reached that goal and
shortly afterward had some necessary elective surgery.
I basically couldn't handle the back-to-back changes and opted to gain
weight again-- with the new understanding that emotionally I needed
time to catch up to the rapid weight-loss/ new body image I had of
myself before losing weight again. (As on several occasions before,
I've dropped a noticeable amount of weight in yo-yo dieting... only to
freak out and promptly gain the weight back when people starting
coming up to me and compliment me on my new appearance.)
In the time I had off from losing weight, I really took the time to
decide from a physiological point of view what exactly was it about
food that was helping to prevent me from losing (and keeping) the
weight off successfully.
I realized after reviewing my family's heavy history of addition and
depression, that I had several foods that I was just simply addicted
to (namely sugar & starchy products). So I found an eating lifestyle
(from one of the many books out there) that suited me and have been
following it with MUCH less difficulty since cutting out starches &
sugar from my diet.
I also have been losing weight again and am less than 25 lbs from my
original weight loss of 101 lbs from January 2008. (I will still have
over an additional 60-70 lbs to lose once I hit the 101 lb goalpost
anyway).

Yeah, me, too...I plan to "taste" several dishes, and make healthy choices with the turkey, veggies & salads.
(I'm not posting the thread this week with weekly weigh-in & #'s due to Thanksgiving Day, but to keep accountable here, this morning I weighed-in 0.5 (1/2 lb under my TGW). Yippee...good place to be for Thanksgiving! Have a great Day! --- In thinclub@yahoogroups.com, "Tina" <ourgodisg8@...> wrote: > > Hi all hope you have a happy Thanksgiving!!!! Time for my weekly reality check & accountability here with my maintenance plan at 5 weeks:
T.G.W.: 138 lbs C.W.: 138.5 lbs...up 1/2 lb, ( or 0.5) B.M.I.: between 21-22 Waist: 28"...down 1/2 inch Hips: 36 1/2"...down 1/2 inch Wearing: size 4 & 6
All in all, I'm doing very well thus far. And, I'm continuing to discover what foods have a more positive effect on my body, too.
Having celebrated my b'day meals over the wkend out-of-town with family & friends, I ate a piece of b'day cake and shared a slice of cheesecake with my husband, too. And, following the celebrations, I got right back on track with lower calorie, high nutritious foods and back into my exercise routine as well.
How about You? Want to participate? Want to share anything regarding your progress?
It appears you've been in maintenance a month more than me. Good luck with your finals & staying at your current weight.
Okay then...I'll post a thread every Thursday for members that would like to participate sharing their weight/and/or #'s. It will help keep me accountable, and maybe I'll meet some friends, too. I hope so.
Have a good week all

I'm at 135.5 and have maintained that weight for a few months, which
leaves me at a size 4-6. :) Hopefully I will stay that way, even
through finals :/!!

In an effort to maintain my current goal weight of 138 lbs, I thought I'd post once a week with my current weight and numbers...it might help keep me accountable here knowing I will "check in" once a week with the group here.
"A work in progress..." I like that! Congrats on your success with your weight loss!
I will slowly replace my wardrobe with the smaller sizes...so far I have just a handful of the "now" size new articles of clothing. I have another shopping trip scheduled for Saturday.
I can relate to your words: ~~~"It's still hard to pass up a pair of pants that say size 4 (a four??? me???), but am still > slowly learning to buy things that not only fit, but look good."~~~ After discovering that I could fit into a size 4 on Sunday, I thought about grabbing several items just to see it they fit knowing I wouldn't purchase them...just for the fun of it.
I'm thinking it would keep me accountable to post my weight once a week here. I don't belong to any weight loss organization. So, it would help me "keep real" with my numbers. Is anyone else interested in posting their weight, or weighing-in on a certain day of the week?

Ahh, shopping for new clothes. This was actually a hard one for me.
Before, if it fit, I bought it (high point, I was wearing a size 20-
26), and preferably, the baggier the better! I bought a few things
in the "during" process, but really waited until I hit my first goal,
which was a weight loss of 75 pounds. After losing weight, I was so
excited to get into single digit clothing sizes that again, if it
fit, I bought it! Let's just say, there were a few clothing
disasters during that shopping era!
Helpful things for me...
1. Once I hit my first goal weight, I picked one outfit from my
before collection to keep as a reminder. Then, I got rid of every
single clothing item I owned. Why keep them in the closet? I do not
intend to ever wear those sizes again, so why keep them? It was
pretty hard to do, as I had quite a bit of very nice clothing, but it
was something I had to do. So out with the old and several
organizations really benefited from my donations!
2. I also have a weight range that if the scale hits the upper mark,
I get serious and start logging my food intake and work out a bit
harder for a few weeks, to get back on track.
3. When I decided to lose another 10 pounds, I went out and bought
an expensive pair of jeans that were too tight as a motivator - you
know, the lay down on the bed, suck it all in to get them zipped up
kind! For me, that kind of thing works and now those jeans are quite
comfortable!
4. I also really started looking at my new body shape and focusing
on what style of clothing would look best. It's still hard to pass
up a pair of pants that say size 4 (a four??? me???), but am still
slowly learning to buy things that not only fit, but look good. It
is a work in progress!

It's been 3 1/2 weeks since I reached my target goal weight. I went clothes shopping yesterday. I took clothes in size 4, and 6's in with me into the dressing room. I fit into a size 4 pantsuit! I took exactly 24 weeks to shed the weight: 34 lbs. However, at this time last year, I was wearing size 12's, (and one pair of size 14), jeans; size 12 dresses (and a few size 14's). It's incredible-being thin again!
On page 11 of the book, Joining the Thin Club, the author says:
"You are most likely to succeed in The Thin Club when you: 1. Believe that you belong. 2. Work on changing some of your thoughts, feelings and behaviors to those most likely to keep you in The Thin Club. 3. Look in the mirror and finally see...well...someone attractive and not fat! "
I'm feeling & doing all of the above!
And, like the author says on page 18, Secrets to Staying a Member
"To maintain your weight loss, it is important to have realistic goals about your weight, address body-image concerns, and adhere to a plan for healthy diet and exercise."
Yep, I'm doing that, too. One example, I have a weight range (a top number) on the scale that if I go above, I get back to eating a little less to shed that pound or two. And, I log all my food & liquid intake & my exercise work-outs.
Hope everyone is doing well.
This is my first message on this site., so i'm a newbie or a rookie or
whatever you call it..lol.
I'm in the process of reading the book (when I have time between work
and school)
And I have lost 100lbs since I've had my gastric sleeve back in August
8,2006.
I do admit I am scared of gaining it back. My own surgeon said that the
majority of patients gain back 10-12% of body weight within the first
year or so. So far i'm the same, so im good.
However my husband and I are planning our first child and i'm sure
that's going to make things a lot more complicated!!
Anyone have any advice while I TRY to read the book?!?
Thanks so much and Take Care.

Subject: [thinclub] What have you done to "enhance" your quality of life?
Hi everyone,
I shed 35 lbs w/in 6 mos. Like the author, Judith Lederman, says in her book, Joining the Thin Club, I've experienced a better quality of life (page 13).
As all of you know & have experienced yourselves, it wasn't easy. I will continue to need to do the work involved to stay at my healthy weight/lifestyle.
Some of the work involved: eating more nutritious, lower calorie, lower fat, foods; not eating after 7:30 PM; learning how to order healthier take-out foods & healthier meals at restaurants; and 60 minutes/sometimes 90 minutes aerobic exercise work-outs at least 5 days a week.
What have you done/are doing that benefits your "quality" of life?

Hi,
Nice to meet you. This is my 2nd message here. I want to "stay" at my
current weight and continue my healthy eating habits as well. This past
week, I reached my target goal weight having shed 34 lbs in 24 wks. I
want to stay in the thin club as well.

I reward myself by shopping for new clothes! I can go in the stores and buy things without having to try them on! I used to hate shopping for clothes and absolutely love it now!!!
Good luck to you! It is quite a thing to achieve and I wish you the best of luck. Don't forget to take time to be proud of yourself and your accomplishments(I think that is a hard thing for most women). Why do we always seem to focus on what still needs to be done, yet, take so little time enjoying the rewards of our hard work?
