Hey KIDDO!!!!

Hi Joan, glad to meet you over the internet. I have had colon cancer, stage 4
for nearly 3 years. (It was found October 7, 2000. I have been a member of
this group for about as long as I have had the cancer. Twin Susan,(My identical
twin) told me about this site.I won't bore you with all the details but I have
taken nearly 40 treatments of chemo, off and on during this battle. I have been
to Mayo, UMAS, (my hometown of Fort Smith, Arkansas) and M.D.Anderson in
Houston. The problem with my disease is that it around the portal vein. At the
onset, I had met.cancer. I have managed to gain over 20 pounds during this
process of "cancer." I have alot of faith and I am very "determined", so is
Marilyn also on this forum with colon cancer. I am a widow and my parents are
both deceased. I have a 24 year old son that I am "crazy" about. I have alot
of emotional support from my twin sister and from Marilyn on this site, Mary M,
and Vicki also on this site. Vicki's husband Dan has
colon cancer and he just got thru with a second surgery. Also Virginia, she is
a strong strong woman for continuing with the Gleevec, (that I wimped out on)
due to severe stomach cramps. The last cea blood test I had doubled in 5 days.
I have had two major operations for the cancer, but I am still "holding in there
tough"..............I am to go to Anderson next week. At the present time I am
not on anything, chemo or Gleevec. I haven't taken any chemo since April of
this year. My case is rather complicated but oh well, I guess because I am a
complicated individual.........lol.. I sort of "fly by the seat" of my
pants..............lol...........I just spoke with somebody from Anderson today
and their is a doctor there that has done a stem cell transplant for met.colon
cancer. If all else fails, well, Twin Susan would be a perfect donor for me
since we are twins. If I can't find a surgeon to operate or try to cut out the
cancer on the portal vein then I will try the stem
cell transplant. I always have plan b and c, in case "a"
fails.............lol..............
I admire your courgage for hanging in there. Where were you operated on? Just
wondered. Evidently they did a good job cause your still here!!
God's blessings of hope and peace,
Sally
