Say "No" to Six More Years of Deadly Pesticide

Join the UFW and other farm worker and environmental groups and tell the EPA enough is enough. It's time to quit putting farm workers at risk.

Take action to fight a government plan allowing six more years for growers to use a deadly pesticide the EPA admits needs to be banned.

Yesterday, the UFW joined a coalition of farm worker and environmental groups in reopening a lawsuit aimed at speeding up the removal of azinphos-methyl, commonly called AZM or guthion.
The legal actions also target two other deadly pesticides, phosmet and chlorpyrifos.

All three pesticides are highly neurotoxic organophosphate insecticides which can attack the human brain and nervous system. Exposure can cause dizziness, vomiting, convulsions, numbness in the limbs, loss of intellectual function and death.
New alternatives have emerged costing only slightly more to use that produce the same amount and quality of crops.

The EPA itself has determined that these toxins put farm workers at risk. Last November, it ruled that AZM poses unreasonable adverse effects and must be banned. However, this ruling also allowed the continued use of this deadly pesticide for 6 more years. It also found that the other two pesticides targeted by our lawsuit--phosmet and chlorpyrifos--pose "risks of concern"
to workers and the environment. Yet, The EPA has chosen not to take action and these chemicals are still being used.

This isn't the first time that the EPA put farm workers at risk over these pesticides. In 2001, they found that AZM posed unacceptable risks to workers, but allowed its continued use for four more years because less toxic alternatives cost more to use. Farm worker advocates challenged that decision in federal court and in order to settle the lawsuit, the EPA agreed to reconsider whether to ban AZM. The EPA announced their six year phase out last November.

Tell the EPA that this is too long to risk farm workers and their families. Send your e-mail today!

How to kill pests without killing yourself or the earth......

There are about 50 to 60 million insect species on earth - we have named only about 1 million and there are only about 1 thousand pest species - already over 50% of these thousand pests are already resistant to our volatile, dangerous, synthetic pesticide POISONS. We accidentally lose about 25,000 to 100,000 species of insects, plants and animals every year due to "man's footprint". But, after poisoning the entire world and contaminating every living thing for over 60 years with these dangerous and ineffective pesticide POISONS we have not even controlled much less eliminated even one pest species and every year we use/misuse more and more pesticide POISONS to try to "keep up"! Even with all of this expensive pollution - we lose more and more crops and lives to these thousand pests every year.

We are losing the war against these thousand pests mainly bacause we insist on using only synthetic pesticide POISONS and fertilizers  There has been a severe  "knowledge drought" - a worldwide decline in agricultural R&D, especially in production research and safe, more effective pest control since the advent of synthetic pesticide POISONS and fertilizers.  Today we are like lemmings running to the sea insisting that is the "right way".  The greatest challenge facing humanity this century is the necessity for us to double our global food production with less land, less water, less nutrients, less science, frequent droughts, more and more contamination and ever-increasing pest damage.

In order to try to help "stem the tide", I have just finished re-writing my IPM encyclopedia entitled: THE BEST CONTROL II, that contains over 2,800 safe and far more effective alternatives to pesticide POISONS.  This latest copyrighted work is about 1,800 pages in length and is now being updated chapter by chapter at my new website at:  http://www.stephentvedten.com/

I have posted literally hundreds of  free and safe and far more effective pest control alternatives and other relevant information on the website located at: http://www.safesolutionsinc.com/resources.htm . There is a free 86 page booklet on how to control most pest problems without using any pesticide POISONS entitled: THE BUG STOPS HERE. .

But, the new website at http://www.stephentvedten.com/ has all of my original IPM encyclopedia in its original form and will continue to have more and more free, updated Chapters every week.  We will be posting the new Tick Chapter later today.  There is no need to POISON yourself or your family or to have any pest problems.
