The New York Attorney General's Office has again written a petition joined by several other states demanding that EPA stop its practice of allowing highly hazardous pesticide chemicals to be called "inert ingredients" on pesticide labels. The NYAG latest August 2006 document also petitions EPA to stop its practice of allowing these highly hazardous substances to remain secret, and un-named on the label. Under "Point number one", the NYAG states,: "Hundreds of 'inert' ingredients are in fact hazardous and thus should be identified on pesticide product labels." The NYAG lays out in detail which of the so called "inert" ingredients now allowable in pesticides are actually cited as highly hazardous under other regulatory categories. NYAG states: "EPA 's recognition that the terminology they require on pesticide labels often misleads consumers is particularly troubling given EPA's own definition of false and misleading statements on such labels. Among the statements deemed to constitute misbranding is one 'used in such a way as to give a false or misleading impression to the purchaser.' By EPA's own determination such statements mislead consumers"

The second paragraph of the report states, " Unfortunately, many people will conclude from the term "inert" that such ingredients could not possibly have any adverse health or environmental effects.
