and its' implication (proof?) of the harm that vaccinations are doing;
particularly in regards to autism. I have known for the last 5 years and have
suspected for decades that the epidemic of cancer, autism, "sudden infant death

threats were made.  He too had made many sacrifices to get
the truth out.  Yet his book is still in publication

I am a parent of a 23-yr. old son with autism/cerebral palsy.  I have been
researching and following events on my internet lists for over three years
now, and have been impressed with your courage and firm determination to do
what is right.

We are presently working on a bill for our state to ban all vaccines
containing thimerosal.  Right now the bill is in the early stages, but we
are hoping for strong support.

I want to tell you "Thank you" for not giving in to pressure and allowing
yourself to be bought off by the powers that be that long to suppress the
truth.  We WILL go on doing all we can to make sure these beautiful babies
are not hurt any more.

We have been chelating my son for over three years now; he is slowly
changing in subtle, but important ways.  We have not done the measles test
on him yet, but he definitely has had gut issues through the years, which
seem to have resolved at least partially through the use of the GFCF diet
and probiotics. (As a child, he had yeast, reactivity to wheat products,
frequent diarrhea, giardia infections, etc. etc. )

Dear Andy,

We are sorry to hear that once again, some barbaric wolves are nipping at
your heels, looking for a quick kill.  Meanwhile, there are thousands of
providers, families, and children benefiting from what you have done.  That
can never be reversed.  They have seen first hand in the eyes of their own
children and patients.

At work, I have had to learn to NOT mention your name or cite you directly,
since the public relations mills have done their fine job of misinforming
American pediatricians, journalists, and families.  The mention of your name
now raises eyebrows - a lot of parents I meet, and certainly every
practicing pediatrician, think you are a criminal, at the same time that
they come looking for nutrition assessment and care plans for their MMR
injured, gluten-intolerant children.  ???  There is this almost comical
disconnect.

I don't try to correct that.  Instead I simply put your principles into
practice.  I show them their children's growth charts and explain that at
about age 15 months, their growth trajectories changed.  Their pediatricians
haven't done this.  I show them weight for stature charts which their
pediatricians never use, and show them where their kids fall off the chart,
recover somewhat, then drop again (at second MMR).  I hear about the auntie
with diverticulitis or the grandpa with IBS and explain the connection
between that and trivalent vaccines, without mentioning your name, because
their minds have been pre-conditioned to shut tight at that.  I explain the
signs and symptoms of malabsorption or intolerance or allergy visible in
front of me, in their children.  I fix it.  And fix it, and fix it, get them
growing or trying to talk again...

My husband Chris asked me what my goals are for work.  I said I felt like a
prison guard, with this constant influx of inmates to manage, all these
broken kids.  I said rather than fix them, I'd rather we stop breaking them
in the first place.  I can fix kids, maybe even avert a life of autism for
some, but it's your efforts that might convince policy makers to stop
breaking these kids.

What you have done and are doing fits sensibly into the whole of classic
nutrition literature on growth, gain, and development.  I don't know why the
medical community would have a problem with this or your science, it's a
farce.  Even when I crack undergraduate texts from the 1970s, even there,
your body of work is in no way ever contradictable.  It fits.  Piece upon
piece from DAN, your work,  all of it - can be corroborated somewhere in the
nutrition or bowel disease literature.

You know all that of course!  Thanks to you and your family for the
sacrifices you've all had to make.  There are indeed thousands of
appreciative children and families out there because of it.

I just wanted to add my thanks to you (and your family's support)for

disease in children.  How they can even bring up the charge of
conflict of interest would be laughable if it wasn't so sad and
angering.  Many children, my 10 year old autistic son included, have
been able to receive treatment for this painful colitis thanks to
you.  I had my son to a gastroenterologist in 1999 and despite all
his symptoms, a colonoscopy wasn't even performed, written off as
just "symptoms of autism".  Thanks to your research, I was able to
take my son to Dr. Krigsman and he was scoped in Feb. 2003 and
colitis was found and is now finally being treated.  If there is
anyway my son's experience can help you in your fight, I would be
more than happy to give you whatever information you would need.

autism and autistic enterocolitis and are positive for the vaccinal strain of

The recent charges leveled against Dr. Andrew Wakefield about his article in the
Lancet in 1998 and helping a legal fund are bogus. Clinical science is clinical
science and Dr. Wakefield has answered these charges very adequately.

The people that are attacking Dr. Wakefield because they don't like what he is
finding in his clinical studies, should pay more attention to the ever
increasing epidemic of autism. They should realize that their obstructionist
activities toward Dr. Wakefield is not preventing more children from becoming
autistic and that they are standing in the way of treatments/cure for autism
that could help thousands of children and adults with autism.

They should encourage more clinical science and follow-up clinical science that
will help our children and adults affected with this terrible disorder, instead
of acting as roadblocks to a solution. By them indulging in these obstructionist
activities, they will do nothing to stop the autism epidemic but contributing to
the epidemic.

I am writing early so I can be one of the first in line.

I can sense the sacrifice your family has made over the years and I have
prayed  that God would give you peace and bless your work.  I really
mean that.  You are truly a hero to us.

I have MS, but I did not know that until after we discovered Ben has
Asperger's at the age of eleven. I researched it myself and the school
psychologist confirmed my findings.  I discovered Lynn Hamilton's book
on autism, which led me to one of your and Dr. Bradstreet's conferences.

Ben has been unbelieveably changed and now we know that he will live and
work and be prosperous. He is awesome!!  We love our son and it is a joy
to see him laugh and play and understand himself and others.  He is
"almost normal", but a bit of loveable quirky".

But I want to tell you about my MS and how, through your conferences and
info I too have made huge strides.  Huge.  I see Dr. Perlmutter now and
I am in good hands.  I never would have pursued this path of healing
except that I learned to step out of the accepted standard of
care--looking for healing.

The power of your presentations and your respect for moms has
encouraged me.  One day I gave you a report on Ben's Klippel Trenaunay
Weber (!!??) and you were very kind and that day I needed a little

Statement from Dr Andrew Wakefield
22 February 2004


Serious allegations have been made against me and my colleagues in relation
to the provision of clinical care for children with autism and bowel
disease, and the subsequent reporting of their disease.

These allegations have been made by journalist Brian Deer who has
expressed, in front of witnesses, his aim of destroying me.

All but one of the allegations, which are grossly defamatory, have been
shown to be baseless. One allegation remains against me personally.

That is, that I did not disclose to the Lancet that a minority of the 12
children in the 1998 Lancet report were also part of a quite separate study
that was funded in part by the Legal Aid Board .

It is the Lancet's opinion but not mine that such a disclosure should have
been made since it may have been perceived as a conflict of interest. This
is despite that fact that the funding was provided for a separate
scientific study.

It needs to be made clear that the funds from the Legal Aid Board were not
used for the 1998 Lancet study, and therefore I perceived that no financial
conflict of interest existed.

The Lancet defines a conflict of interest as anything that might embarrass
the author if it were to be revealed later. I am not embarrassed since it
is a matter of fact that there was no conflict of interest. I am, however,
dismayed at the way these facts have been misrepresented.

Whether or not the children's parents were pursuing, or intended to pursue
litigation against the vaccine manufacturers, had no bearing on any
clinical decision in relation to these children, or their inclusion in the
Lancet 1998 report.

It is a matter of fact that there was no conflict of interest at any time
in relation to the medical referral of these children, their clinical
investigation and care, and the subsequent reporting of their disease in
the Lancet.

As far as the 1998 Lancet report is concerned, it is a matter of fact that
we found and reported inflammation in the intestines of these children.

The grant of £55,000 was paid not me but to the Royal Free Hospital Special
Trustees for my research group to conduct studies on behalf of the Legal
Aid Board. These research funds were properly administered through the
Royal Free Hospital Special Trustees.

The Legal Aid research grant to my group was used exclusively for the
purpose of conducting an examination of any possible connection between the
component viruses of the MMR - particularly measles virus - and the bowel
disease in these children. This is entirely in line with other studies that
have been funded by the Legal Aid Board (latterly the Legal Services
Commission) and reported in the BMJ . If and when this work is finally
published, due acknowledgement will be made of all sources of funding.

It is unfortunate that, following full disclosure of these facts to the
editor of the Lancet, he stated that in retrospect he would not have
published facts pertinent to the parent's perceived association with MMR
vaccine in the 1998 Lancet report. Such a position has major implications
for the scientific investigation of injuries that might be caused by drugs
or vaccines, such as Gulf War Syndrome and autism, where possible victims
may be seeking medical help and also legal redress.

Health Secretary John Reid has called for a public enquiry. I welcome this
since I have already called for a public enquiry that addresses the whole
issue in relation vaccines and autism.

It has been proposed that my role in this matter should be investigated by
the General Medical Council (GMC). I not only welcome this, I insist on it
and I will be making contact with the GMC personally, in the forthcoming
week.

This whole unpleasant episode has been conflated to provide those opposed
to addressing genuine concerns about vaccine safety with an opportunity of
attacking me - an attack that is out of all proportion to the facts of the
matter.

I stand by everything that I have done in relation to the care,
investigation and reporting of the disease that I and my colleagues have
discovered in these desperately ill children.

My family and I have suffered many setbacks as a direct consequence of this
work. As a family, we consider that our problems are nothing compared with
the suffering of these children and their families. For the sake of these
children, this work will continue.
