About the Tennessee Symposium on Men's Health:

Men's Health Network is presenting the Tennessee Symposium on Men's
Health as an effort to educate health professionals and the public-
at-large about significant men's health issues within the state.

The symposium will drive awareness of such health issues (including
Smoking Cessation, Mental Health Services, Cardiovascular Treatment,
STD/HIV Management, Cancer, Obesity, Diabetes, Arthritis – Aging)
with the state policy leaders, elected officials, and healthcare
leaders as they deal with the reality of rising healthcare costs.

The state symposium will create opportunities for additional
networking for men's health stakeholders throughout the state, as
well as encourage preventative health measures and a greater
physician & patient dialogue.

Among those invited to participate will be: local, regional, and
state public health department officials, key legislators, advocacy
groups, medical associations, patient advocacy organizations,
churches/parishes, community health leaders, and healthcare
providers.

Participants will receive a report on the status of men's health in
their state and a copy of the book Blueprint for Men's Health.
Program managers will receive a free copy of the MHN HealthZone
event planning kit.

Statement of Need (TN Symposium):

The State of Tennessee faces an increase in significant health
issues.

In 2004, the United Health Foundation Study ranked Tennessee 48th
among 50 states for indicators such as high cholesterol, heart
disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

The Tennessee Health Department recognizes the need and
effectiveness of reducing disparities in health statistics and is
extremely supportive of this symposium.

Ultimately, raise awareness and importance of men's health issues
within the state of Tennessee.

MHN Conference History and Experience:

Men's Health Network (MHN) has sponsored the 1st Annual National
Conference on Men's Health 2004 in partnership with Pennsylvania
State University, and the 2nd Annual National Conference on Men's
Health 2005 in partnership with Morehouse School of Medicine.

MHN was co-sponsor of the World Congress on Men's Health 2003, 2004,
and 2005 in Vienna, Austria. MHN was the featured presenter at the
Georgia State Health Department Symposium on Men's Health in 2004
where MHN was asked to demonstrate the MHN HealthZone health
outreach manual to approximately 75 city and county health
department healthcare professionals. The MHN HealthZone manual has
been adopted as the men's health outreach program for the State of
Georgia.
