Here is an excerpt from the translation of the conclusion of the first sermon in preparation for Christmas, held in VATICAN CITY, DEC. 7, 2004, by the Pontifical Household preacher, Capuchin Father Raniero Cantalamessa.  (from http://www.catholic.org/featured/headline.php?ID=1584)

In the spring, green leaves appear on the branches; they absorb from the atmosphere certain elements that, under the action of solar light, are "fixed" and transformed into the plant's nutriment. We must be like those green leaves! They are a symbol of Eucharistic souls that, contemplating the "sun of justice" who is Christ, they are "fixed" to the nutriment, which is the Holy Spirit himself, for the benefit of the whole great tree that is the Church. In other words, it is that which the Apostle Paul also says: "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit" (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Now let’s see some interesting coincidences:

1. Before the Christian era, the “sun of justice” was the sun god Shamash who brought the laws. Later, the sun god Mithra was also known as the “sun of justice”. In Egypt, the goddess of justice, Maat, was the daughter of sun god Ra.

2. The nutriment coming from the “sun of justice” is the Holy Spirit that feeds us exactly like the solar light feeds the plants. That idea is quite old. As shown on my website, the Holy Spirit was represented above the tree of life, as a winged person that was called Assur by the Assyrians.

The people from middle east use to wear some clothes to protect their faces from the sand of the dessert and from the intense sunlight. That’s why Apostle Paul said "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord” He tells that the glory, which is the light, comes from the Lord who is the Spirit, therefore from the Holy Ghost. Is there any link between the Holy Ghost and the sun? I would say yes, and you can get some clues reading on my web page about Summanus and about the Egyptian ba.

Behold the sunlight,

Petre
