Re: [Suicide] A Crazy Thing

I am not trying to judge but since this a public forum , there are other people
reading this. I want to them to hear another side of the matter. I want them to
know that some people have found good therapists out there. I just want to make
sure that they have well-rounded perspective of the issue. I am sorry that I
offended. But I also had some bad experiences with therapists, too.
Best,
K

You sound like a therapist!  Since you are making judgments, which is exactly
what mental health professionals do, you are hurting the people you are claiming
to be helping.  Good for you for finding a therapist but MANY of us haven't
found them in spite of wanting to!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!

I think it is possible to find good therapists. I had one that was really good.
And she understand what I was going through because she been there herself. I
think therapy is not for everyone. However, it is easy to make this about not
wanting to seek professional help because one is fearful of confronting certain
isssues.

I am the one who posted the message about finding a good therapist. I was
sitting here reading responses and it dawned on me that when someone decides to
see a therapist they actually are telling themselves that it is OK to allow
other people to decide for them what to think and feel. I grew up in an abusive,
dysfunctional home and have carried alot of what I learned which is totally
wrong with me all these years. I actually believed that my family was the only
ones not normal and everyone else was perfect. Reality is we all are screwed up
in some way so really what is normal them? We are assuming that because someone
has a degree and calls themselves a psychiatrist or whatever that somehow they
have all the answers and are not screwed up either. You probably are already
aware but mental health workers and specifically psychiatrists have a high rate
of suicide and a high rate of sexual crimes. Gee we are allowing them to label
us with all kinds of bogus
"mental illnesses", abuse us in every possible way, take our money and treat us
the way they do if we try and commit suicide. And then they who are claiming to
be so perfect turn around and do the same things they abuse us over and have
accused us of.

I have been struggling to find a good therapist for well over a year and I know
that these people are more screwed up than me. The things I have been told are
sometimes pretty crazy. I was told by the psychotherapist I was seeing for 6
months last year that I needed to just forget my past and move on. Hello the
only healthy way to move on is to deal with your past! What good is a therapist
when they do not want to help you deal with your past. Personally I do not even
have the energy much less the money needed to extensively research and interview
all these professionals to find a good one and frankly I do not think there are
many out there anyway. I have gotten more help and support from these online
support groups and others who really have suffered than any of those
professionals.
