Is or has anyone had a difficult problem finding a good, non-judgmental
therapist to talk to? Am I wrong but isn't it their job to "help" a person
figure out their feelings, thoughts and behaviors and not order them as to how
they are supposed to feel or what they are supposed to do? I had several people
I trust through my church urge me to again consider going to a therapist so I
started looking again for that "right" person. I talked to one this morning and
what a nightmare. After only two minutes of conversation she asked why I was
seeking therapy and I told her I had a suicide attempt earlier in the year. I
do not know why that word sparks such judgment and prejudice but she immediately
started putting me down for what I did - without knowing anything about what
happened. I let her have it and then she emailed me claiming I was not
interested in getting help (even though the idiot doesn't seem to understand I
called her), that I was not submitting to authority (?) and I was playing a
victim! She kept saying I need to learn to make better decisions! Hello I
vomitted the pills up and called 911 - not one did that for me I saved myself.
What is it with these condescending, incompetant idiots passing themselves off
as "helping" people???!!! The ironic thing is that this phone conversation was
for me to ask her questions and find out if she was the right person to go to
therapy with but I did not even have a chance to ask anything since she started
with the ignorant judgments.
Is anyone else struggling to find a good therapist? Does anyone know a good
therapist in southeast Michigan who charges based on sliding scale (since I am
laid off right now with no insurance)? Does anyone know the secret to finding a
therapist who is non-judgmental and actually really is concerned with helping
and not making everything worse? Thanks.
