Kevin,
Another tip is to take a pencil and mark a grid on your hone. This way when you
are rubbing it on the wet/dry sandpaper you will know when it is flat when all
of the marks are gone. It is interesting to note where the high and low spots
are on the hone. If necessary use a courser sandpaper and then follow up with a
less course sandpaper to smooth out the surface.
Cheers,
Bill

Subject: [Straight Razor Place] How to flatten a hone?
I've inherited a hone, not sure what it is, maybe a japanese
waterstone. It's got a few nicks on the surface and is not totally
flat. So my plea is - can anyone suggest how to flatten it? - note I've
got no money :-( It's about 8" x 2"
Many thanks, Kevin
