Those that are lost here is my original letter so you know what is
going on....this is a copy of the letter i sent to the Kentucky State
Governor Ernie Fletcher
I am a single mother of a 7 year old. In march of this year I was
diagnosed with esophgheal cancer. I received K-Tap and a medical card
until my disability was approved. i was then approved for SSI until
social security kicks in. I have been told that in September of this
year when my social security kicks in that I will have to go to a spin
down medical card as I will no longer be eligible for SSI. the
guideline is $623.00 and my social security will be $743.00. My
daughter will draw $223.00 a month. this makes me ineligible for a
medical card at a state level as our income is will be $966.00 and the
guideline for that is $851.00. I have been told I must pay $700.00 in
medical bills each month and then the spin down will pay the rest. I
live in HUD housing and my rent will be based on $966.00. My rent
will go up to around $280.00 a month. After you subtract the $700.00
our income will only be $266.00 and I am also going to lose my food
stamps. I am a TERMINAL cancer patient. I have been told I am not
eligible for Adult medical as Home health does not come to see more,
nor does Hospice. I am very worried as i have chemo every other week
and that is what has kept me alive past the original 3 month diagnosis
they gave me. I am 43 and fighting to live for my 7 year old. the
way the system is set up I will not be able to seek my medical care
and pay our bills. Can you please help?
Terena L. Vincent
His office has not written me back but he they did write back a friend
of mine that wrote in my behalf.
Below is what they wrote him back.
Mr. Rote:
Thank you for your letter to Governor Fletcher regarding the health
care needs of your friend Terena Vincent. She had already shared the
same concerns via email. Her letter has been forwarded to the
Cabinet for Health and Family Services with a request that we review
and respond directly to her. I have asked our Medicaid Eligibility
Policy staff to look at Ms. Vincent's case, see if there are any
avenues of assistance that may help her. We realize that it is very
difficult when folks lose their SSI and so their medical cards. The
Commissioner of Medicaid will be writing her a letter with information
that hopefully will be of assistance to her going forward.

WTF is that?? says to me they know full well what they are doing.
this reply says it all and I have still yet to here a word from any
of them. I find it amusing they have not written me back but wrote
Rich back who lives in Illinois. Keep writing them folks. Ask them
how they can disable a person that needs medical and take their only
access to treatment. let them know this is peoples lives they are
playing with. Please wrote them today. My name is Terena Vincent.
Use my name so they know who you are talking about. Ask them if it is
fair to penalize a person for being declared disabled. Anyone else
they have written back please post. I myself have not heard one word.....
