Re: [stomacentralint] new member

Hi Lana,

It would help if I knew what kind of bag and the manufacturer of the bag.
I had a box of Hollister that every bag separated between the plastic and the seal.
I called them and they sent me a new box.

I would call the manufacturer of his bag, pouch or appliance and ask what products might help to secure the bag.  Don't apply adhesive tape...too hard to remove without causing problems with his skin.  And, the waterproof tape you can pick up at Wal-Mart for a lot cheaper.

These are the product I use.
1.  Hollister Premium Powder #7906 (For peristomal skin protection.
2.  Or, AllKare by ConvaTec - Protective Barrier Wipe
3.  Smith +Nephew Adhesive Remover Wipe (Eases tape and adhesive dressing removal)
4.  Eakin Seals (for more covexity) along with Smith+Nephew Skin-Bond to secure to the body and the seal.
Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP, 0.1% - prescription from my doctor to help heal skin from acid burn to skin.

If you can find a wound care nurse to evaluate his stoma and the type of bag he will need, I would suggest you do that. Over time my stomas has changed.

Does he spend most of time sitting, standing or in bed?  Each of these positions have an impact on how well the bag will stay on without a problem.  My biggest problem is at night and within an hour of eating.

I hope this information will help.
Hugs, Sandy

I think the bag comes off by itself at times but during the night, he may rip it off himself. I don't have any adhesive tape so I will need to get tht plus adhesive past.

Thanks.

Lana

Hi Lana,
Welcome to our group.

My name is Sandy and I am one of 4 co-owners of this site.  Please check out our links
for additional information.

I can imagine this is a real challenge for you....I myself would like to pull the bag off at times and have, in my sleep.

I have an ileostomy, too and find it challenging to keep my bags from leaking.

So, my question is:  Does your child pull the bag off or does the bag leak?

Do you use additional adhesive...like powder or liquid?
Do you reinforce the area around the bag with the pink waterproof tape for additional protection?

Do you monitor the amount of liquid producing foods/juices he is eating/drinking?

If anyone else has a solution please respond to Lana.

Hugs, Sandy

Ijust jointed. I have a 17-year-old autistic child who got an ileostomy about a month ago. We are having trouble getting the ostomy bag to stay on. He is really not accepting of the bag. He wants it to come off.
