Hi Dianna -
I have a colostomy and urostomy. I had checked into the gastric bypass and the doctor that does this type of surgery said there would be no way he would do it. He said that a person with an ostomy needs to drink at least 64 ounces of fluid a day to stay hydrated and because you can only drink or eat 1 ounce 6 times a day I would have to live on IV's for hydration. My life would be more compramised than if I just did it by diet and exercise. Then he told me that I would have to stick to a diet and exercise anyway so really doing the surgery is just a fullness help and nothing more. He said in time you will be full at a smaller amount anyway. I think it is a HUGE risk.
I am wheelchair bound and have lost 70+ pounds by joining Sparkpeople.com They have a eating plan, calorie tracker, messege boards for support and exercises for al types of people with limitations.
