Re: [stomacentralint] Ileostomy and gastric bypss/lap band

Thank you Dianna  and I hope you are enjoying your holiday season, too.

In my opinion I think you need to discuss this issue with your gastro doc.

I had type 2 diabetes from prednisone, too and gained almost 90 lbs.  I bought a book from the American Diabetes Assn. and in about a year lost 60 lbs.  It can be controlled with diet and medicine.

I have two friends whose daughters have died from their gastric bypass.  And another whose daughter developed seizures.  I think you are asking for trouble.

An ileostomy already reduces the amount of nutrition you get and since you can not eat more than 1 ounce of food with a gastric bypass, your system will be greatly compromised.

Another issue I am dealing with, because of prednisone, is acute renal failure.  This is because my adrenal gland no longer functions when my body is stressed.

This is a serious undertaking and you need to do research on this before taking such a drastic step.
Hugs, Sandy

Hello All!

I hope you're all enjoying the holiday season.

I'd like to know if anyone here with an ileostomy has experience with
gastric bypass or the lap band. I have been struggling with my weight
for many years, mostly since I gained 100 pounds when taking
Prednisone before my surgery.

I was just diagnosed with controlled Type 2 Diabetes and would like to
look into the weight loss surgery but just wonder how safe that would
be alongside having an ileostomy.

Any comments you have are very appreciated.

Dianna
