Hi......Regarding Parastoma Hernia repairs. I will try to find out what was used on me back around 2004 after one attempt failed when the mesh used tore in less than a year, causing a return of a hernia. I will have to contact my surgeon's office and have them check my records to see what type mesh for the repair used that did work. What I do know is that it was a new type that my surgeon at the time was not familiar with and the manufacturer' s rep came and was present during the surgery to offer info as needed. Whether the material was "Alloderm" or not I will find out if I can.
What was special about this implant is that it was specifically designed for Parastoma Hernias where care must be taken to prevent any of the mesh material from ever touching the Ileum conduit and risking abrasion. It is not easy to describe in words, but if anyone has ever seen one of those doggie or cat collars Vets use to keep an animal from licking or biting a wound while it heals you will have some idea what I am talking about. The Implant mesh material is so designed that it has an opening or hole in the center that is surrounded by a soft material that will not harm a stoma or the conduit. This acts as a barrier between the mesh and the Ileum. The implant has a pre-cut slit that allows the surgeon to fit it around the ileum as the mesh is put in place to close off the hernia site once the hernia sac has been removed. Something I had not known was that hernia sacs are removed and
sent to pathology for examination as a routine thing. Anyway.....I will attempt to find out the type of mesh used with this type of implant, and will post the answer as soon as possible.

Hi ~
I was wondering if anyone here has had a para stoma hernia repair using Alloderm? If you have was it successful? How long ago was it done? Did they resite your ostomy? Did you have any complications (infections, rejection, ect)?
I have to make an appointment to see my surgeon and have my hernia's repaired as the bloodflow to the colostomy is being compramised. I want to do this before it ends up being an emergency surgery and I think we are getting close to that point. It has been 2 years since he wanted to go in and operate and I refused.
Any information would be grately appriecated.
