I have been having problems with my left eye off and on for quite some time. A
few months ago I noticed a feeling of something in my eye, and when I looked at
it I saw a large swelling area (about the size of this small "o") on the clear
outer lining of the eyeball in the far left hand size of the white part of the
eye [I hope that makes sense]. It would be there for a few days, then go away,
then come back a few weeks later, go away, then come back. Once in a while I'd
get a little bleariness for a few seconds, but nothing more. In addition I
frequently get a floater and have for a few years. The third time it happened I
started getting longer periods of bleariness up to 2-5 minutes and the floater
got really bad on a low caffeine day (see end of the paragraph). I also got some
extreme pain in the eye, and called the eye doctor, but they couldn't get me in
for a few days, and by the time I did get in it was all gone. He did a slit lamp
to check for a tear, and glaucoma and cataract checks, all normal. The doctor
thinks the floaters are because of the caffeine, as they almost 100% correlate
with days I have high caffeine intake.
I've tried to ignore it, but a new set of problems have come up. I no long see
the gelatinous swelling (for lack of a better word) but now are having ever
increasing periods of blurred vision in that eye. The area affected is that far
left white part again, covering an area almost like the shape of a 1/4 moon. The
bleariness can now last up to 15-20 minutes, and I'm really getting concerned. I
am afraid to call the specialist, as it always seems to go away by the time I
get there, and I feel pretty silly going to ER just for a little bleary vision.
The only other thing I can think of that might be related is that I have now
developed mild hypertension, and was out of work for stress related issues for 2
weeks. I have always had chronic headaches, and on days when I am overtired or
stressed out the nerve to that eye throbs terribly.
Does this sound familiar? Any suggestions?
