RE: [Stickler Syndrome ] new with a few questions

Our daughter was also born with the cleft palate and pierre robin syndrome.
We switched to a cup between 9-10 months and we found that it was way harder
for us than it was for her. I think the brand we used was Safety First
Toddler Tumblers, they were the best - they were just basic cups with lids.
You do NOT want the spill proof cups - the cleft palate makes it virtually
impossible for the babies to use a spill proof cup. We introduced it
gradually. The first week, we swapped one bottle out for a cup every day
(and refilled it as needed since she drooled out most of the milk the first
week). The second week we added more and more cups and by the end of the
week, she was 100% on cup and off bottle. It's really just a matter of
committing to make the switch. Do you have a speech/feeding therapist? I
know in NYS, babies with cleft palates qualify for services through early
intervention, including speech therapy. The therapist can also help make the
switch.
About the teeth... Can't help you there. Shevs didn't sprout her first tooth
until her first birthday. Good luck!

Subject: [Stickler Syndrome ] new with a few questions

Hello, I am new to this group and just have a few questions hopefully I
can get some feed back on. My 3 and a half month old son has cleft
palate with the pierre robin syndrome. He is currently using the
habrman nipple, which has been a life saver by the way. Doctors have
told us that we need to have him drinking out of a cup by the time that
he is a year so that he is completly bottle broken when his cleft is
repaired. I would like to know if anyone has any techniques they would
suggest to use when going from nipple stright to cup, anything to make
the transition a little easier? Also what is a good brand of a spouted
cup that is easy to work with? My last question is this- I just noticed
that he had his first tooth come through, he is only 3 and a half
months. Has anyone else experienced this in relation to the pierre
robin syndrome? Any feedback would be greatly helpful.
