Hello Bev.
My name is Cathy. I am 33 with no children. I was born with a cleft
palate and had ear tubes and a detached retna at age 11 in my left
eye. So far I've been very lucky I can see well and hear with no
problems. I've been very blessed. I tried IVF and used the PGD testing
to determine if any of the eggs they got out had any stickler. Out of
seven eggs only one had it. Unfortually they put three eggs in but non
took. My husband (age 32) doens't want to spend the money again and he
doens't like adoption. I was adopted and so it wouldn't bother me. I
am at a cross roads of giving up the idea of havng kids or hoping my
husband will change his mind. We did try naturally but so far nothing
has happened probably just as well after reading so many of the others
that do have kid with this it does sound scary to bring a child into
this world with all this espically since I know what it's like I had 8
surgeries all together and I don't know if I'd want to have to see my
kid go through that. My advice to you would be keep asking around and
make sure if you have a partner it what both of you want. Having a kid
can bring couples together or can even tear them apart. I see that
now. When were first together I said I couldn't have any kids thinking
since I have stickler it's 50/50 now with IVF and the PGD testing I
thought great now I have a better chance, but for my husband (we have
been married for 5 years but knew each other since we were 19) he
liked not having any he is selfish and would rather do his thing and
play his video games. Good luck.
Cathy
