Hello to all
My name is Cathy I am 33 years old. I am married with no children. I
do have 6 cats. I was adopted by a very nice family. My family
couldn't take care of me so I was adopted by a family who kept
incontact with my biological family. I was born with a cleft palate
and had testing done and was diagnosed with stickler syndrome. I
had a detached retna at age 11 in my left eye but had surgery and
have been doing well. I had lasik done on my eyes and enjoyed not
wearing glasses for many years now I do wear them just to drive.
I've been lucky or blessed I haven't suffered really during my life.
I did have ear tubs twice but in all having 8 surgeries didn't get
me down. My mother always said I was a fighter I guess I had to be
and now I'm happy to be living in nice house in Portland with my
husband. We did try and have kids through IVF. We read that if we
did it that way we could do a PGD test to find out which eggs had
the stickler and weed out the bad ones. I had seven eggs and only
one had the gene. They put three in but they didn't work. I was sad
but many times IVF doesn't work the first time. We may try again
later but for now we are moving on with our lives. I've been lucky
to have traveled and done alot in my life. I have learned that there
are those worse off than me and as long as I have my faith in God I
can get through anything. For the parents who have children with
this just love them and do everything you can to "HELP" them not do
it for them. Don't let them give up. It took alot for them to get
into this world they should enjoy it with everything they can.
