I was the first in my family that showed signs of sticklers with first
the nearsigtedness and than joint problems. My brother who is 16 now
has had two retinal detachments at age of 14 and 15. They were able to
fix and he seems well with his eye sight. He also had the hearing
prolems from birth and had to three Mastoidectomy, which basically got
rid of all the fluids and infections in his ears that caused him
hearing loss to the point that he was almost deaf. Now he has almost
perfect hearing. My oldest sister who is 28 shows no signs of
sticklers. (She also thinks that my mother and I go crazy over going
to the doctor and denys that we really have sticklers)
For my back surgery, the doctor does think that sticklers is
the reason that my vertebrae have collasped. Before all this happen i
was in perfect health and exercised regularly and tried to stay away
from all the sugars and caffines. He thinks it is related becuase it
is connective tissue and collagen that connects the vertebrae together
and sticklers takes these things away. I have had two surgeries now
from my collasped discs and am getting ready to have a third. The
doctor told me that once the vertebrea start collasping they go into
jealous mode with the other vertebrea and start collasping as well.
Sorry so long, i am just so happy to finally have people to talk to
aobut this becasue my family just starts fighting about who gave it to
who and so on....
