Everytime I make statements against the wonderful
perfect world of the airline captain, I have to go back
and read the CVR from the Canary Islands disaster.

I have to read again how the KLM FE, obviously very
nervous that a very congested runway is not clear,
tentatively suggests that Panam with 300+ passengers may not
have cleared. But he is overriden by a Captain in a
vast hurry, obviously pissed off at the detour he has
had to make and the fact that if he doesn't get away
soon, they will have to spend another night in that
Godforsaken place.

500 people died.

That
never, never, never, never, should have happened.

There are many other tales like that, but that is the
one that tells me I am not a nut, and that the most
experienced captains make grave errors.
