sair Withdrawing from Privatisation TAP

SAirGroup pulls out of TAP
privatisation<br>(UPDATE: releads with SAirGroup statement)<br><br>By
Marcel Michelson<br><br>ZURICH, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Swiss
aviation conglomerate SAirGroup said on Thursday it was
withdrawing from the privatisation of TAP-Air Portugal
[TAP.CN], making the Portuguese airline the first victim of
its strategy overhaul.<br><br>The Swiss company said
in a statement it would continue its commercial
cooperation with TAP and provide a guarantee for the
short-term financing needs of the Portuguese firm, which
will count against any liabilities that arise from its
withdrawal.<br><br>Portuguese Public Works Minister Jorge Coelho has called a
news conference for 1800 GMT in Lisbon after a meeting
with SAirGroup Chairman Eric Honegger. Swissair said
the two men met ``in an atmosphere of openness and
mutual trust.''<br><br>SAirGroup shares were down 2.5
percent at 234 euros by 1650 GMT, little changed from
their losses before the
statement.<br><br><a href=http://biz.yahoo.com/rf/010201/l01190342_3.html
