Here is my input on the questions posed:
First off, I'm a 44 yr. old mother with myelomeningocele at L4 and L5.? It
sounds like your functional level is similar to mine.? I walked at 18 months and
walked while I was growing up, rollerskated too!? I'm a swimmer as well.? I use
a manual chair for distances.
Knee replacement:
I was told that I am not a candidate for knee replacement because knee
replacements are made for "normal knees".? I am not able to fully extend my
knee; I have always walked with at least a small amount of flexion in my knees.?
So I have been advised that I need to preserve the parts?I have because knee
replacement is not an option.
Nerve block:
I delivered my son via schedule c-section under general anesthetic, because I am
not a candidate for an epideral.? Because the docs can't be certain where my
cord ends (due to SB and probable tethering) they can't risk doing an epideral
on me.
That's just my experience.
