First of all, I don't remember meeting anyone specifically at the Conference,
but unless your child was either in the 12 year old group or the Brothers and
Sisters Teen group, I wouldn't have.
One urologist there said that we shouldn't have our children on antibiotics
nightly (we do) because we are just creating a superbug. When I did take Katie
off last year for a month, she immediately starting having urine that smelled,
but the doctor at the Conference said that was nothing to worry about. If that
happens, have your children drink more water, drink cranberry juice, cath more
often etc. All our kids have bacteria in their urine and many of the regular
doctors don't realize that. I don't remember all the signs of a true UTI, but
fever was the first. I think pain was also one.
I am going to gradually take Katie off the antibiotics, and will follow some of
the suggestions here of white vinegar in her bath and drinking lemon water. I
would assume this would be without sugar since that contributes to problems. I
have tried for 12 years to get Katie to drink more water, but it is nearly
impossible. Maybe the smell will remind her to drink her water. I also found a
Mickey shaped water bottle holder that she can put around her neck.?And at
Conference,?I met a man using a chair who had a special cup holder designed for
wheelchairs. It was very cool. He got it subscribing to some magazine. I am
going to google it because if the water is readily available, she might be more
likely to drink it. I don't know how long she will want to hang a water bottle
around her neck.
To the pregnant moms, I lost two babies to miscarriages between my son and my
daughter, so when I found out at 22 weeks that Katie had sb and hydrocephalus,.
I was ok because she was still living. At 12, she is going into middle school,
dances with a regular dance troupe (though she uses her wheelchair), swims,
sings in the Children's choir at Church, loves Hannah Montana, fights with her
brother, has teenage hormones that make me want to strangle her at times, is
friendly, verbal, and generally loves life.
