Description

Spherocytosis is a common blood disorder, usually hereditary, in which a person's red blood cells (RBC's) are sphere-shaped, rather than the traditional "donut-shape". It's sometimes considered to be a type of hemolytic anemia. Treatment of the disorder usually includes splenectomy (surgical removal of the spleen) at a young age and treatment with antibiotics. This mailing list has been set up so that people with the disorder, parents of kids with the disorder, or anyone else with an interest in hereditary spherocytosis can have a place to chat and discuss treatment options and how the disorder affects (or doesn't affect) our lives.
