Hey everybody-
I have problems leaving my house and it sucks. If the place I am
going is more than 15 minutes away, I'm anxious. I can't stop
thinking about wanting to go home and my stomach hurts all the time. I
can be
such a mess sometimes. I guess only people with the disorder really
get what I'm saying. I take medicine, if I didn't I really would be a
mess. I used to cry on my way to work! Does anyone else feel me on
this?

I know the feeling. I currently started my first semester of grad
school and am required to give a lot of presentations that are at
least an hour long. I haven't done any past 20 minutes (as an
undergrad) so i'm nervous about it and i feel like i'm gonna look like
a complete idiot in front of everybody. i get these feelings like
everybody is way smarter than me. anyways, the way i deal with it is
just, it's something you have to do and face even if it makes you feel
anxious but i think the more you make yourself deal with it the more
easier it becomes. just hang in there and see if it works out. take it
one step at a time. the way to deal with fear is just to go for it
because you realize in the end it wasn't as scary as you thought it
would be. i know that, even after you get through a nerve wracking
conversation or presentation or whatever you can't help but to think
about how stupid you acted or you regretted this or that but u gotta
just take a deep breathe and realize that it's done and over with and
your just overeacting. good luck :) i'm sure things will get better
for you.

I really do not know where to begin this post. I am probably posting
this message in the wrong section anyway. I have always been a very
shy person. When I was younger I never wanted to talk to other kids.
I never tried to make friends with people because I told myself the
more friends you have the more problems you will have. I went to
college and I wanted to start over. I did not want to have the same
views on friendship that I had in high school. I thought if I got
involved with something that would make me speak in front of people
maybe my shyness would just go away. I graduated with a degree in
public relations. My fear never did really go away.
I always thought that it was a horrible case of shyness but over the
last few months I believe I am suffering from SDA. A few months ago
I got a promotion at my job. I was very excited about it. The pay
and benefits are great and I really enjoy working for this company.
The new job calls for a lot of meetings and conference calls. This
is where I am having the SDA problems. We usually have these calls
and meetings toward the end of the work week. I am always very laid
back and relaxed at the beginning of the week. As the days go by I
get more and more nervous about these tasks. Almost to the point
where I want to tell my boss to demote me back to my other position
for I would not have to deal with it. When I am at these meetings
and on these phone calls I can't help thinking that the person on
the other line is thinking that I do not know what I am doing or I
am giving the wrong information. It has gotten so bad that I have
actually been thinking of looking for another job with less
responsibility.
I really do not know what to do. If anyone can help me out and give
Me some advice I would really appreciate it. I will take all the
help I can get at this point.
Thanks for listening to me rant.

Stress is not all bad. In fact, a certain amount of stress can make life
interesting and engaging. We cannot escape every deadline or every commitment,
so, rather than trying to eliminate stress entirely, we need to attempt to
control stress as best we can. Interestingly enough, if we don’t have enough
stress, we may end up feeling tired and hopeless.
It would be wonderful if we could come up with a mathematical formula for
stress—the amount of stress an individual could conceivably accept without
going into overdrive. However, optimal stress levels vary from person to person
and from situation to situation. In fact, a situation that might make your skin
crawl might be invigorating for another person. Likewise, a person who thrives
on constant change would be stressed out in a job that is mundane, while an
individual that hates change would be stressed out in a position that is
constantly in a state of flux...

Sharing articles with the newest topic of this week is "Is Your Personality
Causing You Stress?"
It may sound hard to believe, but experts say that your personality can
actually cause you stress. To a certain extent, your personality might have been
determined at birth. However, there are certain characteristics that you might
have developed over the years that are now contributing to your stress level.
While one cannot change his or her personality overnight, it is certainly
possible to change certain habits that may now be causing you stress.

Way"
...Perhaps you break out into a cold sweat when you have to deliver a
talk before a group of people. Or perhaps you become nervous when you
have to take a test. There are certainly numerous causes for anxiety.
Similarly, there are a number of treatment options for those
