Can you give a voice to vulnerable witnesses?
SLTs can apply to become registered witness intermediaries via a recruitment campaign being launched by the CJS's Witness Intermediary Scheme on 1 July.
Intermediaries help witnesses who have communication needs to give their best evidence in criminal investigations and trials by ensuring that they can understand questions put to them and can communicate their answers effectively.
Intermediaries come from a wide range of professions, including speech and language therapists, and work on a self-employed basis. The campaign aims to recruit more intermediaries in order to meet an increased demand for their services.
The CSJ has produced an
information document about the role, the professional skills and experience required and the areas in England where applicants are needed. For further details and an application form, visit the CJS website from Wednesday, 1 July. The closing date for applications is Friday, 24 July and interviews will be held during 24-28 August.
SLTs who have any other questions are asked to call (020) 7035 8683 or email Jason Connolly.
