for Parliamentary debate on the Bercow Review
Dear Liz
The Bercow Review to be debated in Parliament
A Topical Debate has been tabled in the order of business in the House of Commons on Monday 21st July at 3.30 pm to discuss the Bercow Review recommendations.
I know that the timing is very tight, but it is an ideal opportunity for you to ask your constituency MP to attend and question the government on your behalf about its plans for implementing the AAC recommendations in the Bercow Review final report.
You may have specific questions about provision and support in your local area that would be of particular interest to your constituency MP and this Debate will be the ideal opportunity to raise them. It is also really important to remind the government of the importance of AAC alongside all the other recommendations relating to children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.
Anna Reeves, a Trustee of Communication Matters, has prepared a briefing paper you could use to inform your MP about the Bercow Review - you may wish to add your own information about its implications for you and your local community.
You can download the briefing paper from www.communicationmatters.org.uk/downloads/news/2008_bercow_review_topical_debate_briefing.doc
An effective way to contact your MP is via www.theyworkforyou.com as follows:
-
Enter your postcode to find your MP
- Click the link Send a message to…your MP
- Enter your contact details
- Copy and paste /edit your message requesting their attendance at this Topical
Debate and asking them to consider your questions (some examples are in the
briefing paper)
To watch the Topical Debate as it happens, either tune into the Parliamentary channel on TV if you have access to it, or go to www.parliamentlive.tv/Main at 3.30 pm on Monday 21st July.
I am aware that this notice will be less relevant to you if you are not in an English constituency, in which case I hope the information will be of interest.
With best wishes,
Liz
