This post will involve travel across the borough but will be based with the Local Authority Hearing Impairment Team at Dryden Centre within the Special Educational Needs Support Service.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an advanced SLT practitioner in Hearing Impairment to become an integral member of the Local Authority's Hearing Impairment Team whilst being employed within Gateshead PCT's Department of Speech & Language. The post has been funded by the Gateshead Council following their review of Out of Authority placements in which the need for an expert SLT in Hearing Impairment was identified to meet the needs of deaf children now educated within the Local Authority.
The post requires an SLT with a strong background in working with the full range of Hearing Impairment from birth to 19. An in depth knowledge of the National Curriculum, experience of delivering therapy in educational settings as well as evidence of post graduate training in Hearing Impairment are essential. Initially the post holder will be involved with developing a service to Hearing Impaired children across Gateshead. The Service will be delivered in the most appropriate location to meet individual children's needs, including domiciliary visits, Early Years settings, mainstream schools, HI ARMS and Special schools. As well as providing direct therapy (sometimes on an intensive basis) the post holder will develop programmes for delivery by others and there will be a significant training element to the post.
Whilst working on a day to day basis with the Hearing Impairment Team the post holder will also be a Senior Member of the Paediatric SLT Service taking part in Clinical Governance, Audit initiatives and other professional activities. CPD, appraisal and professional supervision will be provided by the SLT Department.
This post will be subject to Enhanced CRB disclosure.
