This is an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language with a recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent to deliver an inpatient service as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the Roycroft Clinic.
The developing Communication Department of 3 SALTS, 1 SALT Assistant and 1 Secretary is an integral part of this in patient service and will soon be providing a support to 54 young people across 2 hospital sites, which includes open units, low and medium secure facilities.
Your post within the above will provide:
- A national inpatient, therapeutic specialised Speech and Language Therapy Service, to contribute to the complex and challenging communication and literacy needs of 18 children and young people with a combination of mental health and forensic history/presentation, some of whom may have Autistic Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disorder.
- Specialist training/supervision/ expert opinion in the specialist clinical areas to carers and a range of other professionals both within and outside the service, to try to ensure that the communication needs of the client group have been recognised and maximised
- High quality of liaison will be required with referrers, families and other agencies involved in the care of young people with mental health and offending histories, including members of the legal profession, local authority staff, education institutions and members of the Home Office and local authority secure establishments- as well as local community mental health teams.
- Monitoring and evaluation of the service in line with agreed Department strategies and plans for overall service development
- Opportunities for research and continuous development of specialist skills
- Some supervision for SALT Assistant and SALT students within the DepartmentÂ
The post holder is managerially accountable to the Principal Speech and Language Therapist who is accountable for clinical service provision to the Children and Young People’s Forensic Service Manager.
The Department is committed to CPD and will offer regular team meetings and peer support/supervision.
