Highly Specialist Speech and
Language Therapist, Riding Unit,
( 9 miles west of
Band 7 ( 0.5 WTE)
If you enjoy a challenge, have considerable experience and would like
to work with children and young people with Learning Disability, mental health
and complex challenging communication needs, this unique post could be for you.
The developing Communication Department of 3 SALTS, 1 SALT Assistant
and 1 Secretary is an integral part of this in patient service and will soon be
providing a support to 54 young people across 2 hospital sites, which includes
open units, low and medium secure facilities.
Your post within the above will provide:

A national inpatient, specialised
Speech and Language Therapy Service, as a member of a comprehensive
multidisciplinary team to up to 8 children and adolescents within the Riding
Unit
·
A comprehensive communication
assessment, advice/treatment for the clients, some of who are preverbal, within
the admission of about 12 weeks duration.
·
Dysphagia assessment/
advice/management to any clients who require this within the overall service
·
Low tech Alternative and
Augmentative communication systems as/when necessary
·
Specialist training/supervision/
expert opinion in the specialist clinical areas of learning disability,
autistic spectrum, mental health and challenging communication to parents and a
range of other professionals both within and outside the service, to try to
ensure that the communication needs of the client group have been recognised
and maximised
·
Monitoring and evaluation of the
service in line with agreed Department strategies and plans for overall service
development
·
Opportunities for research and
continuous development of specialist skills
·
Some supervision for SALT
Assistant and SALT students within the Department
