Adult Speech and Language Therapy Dept
We are looking for innovative Speech and Language Therapists who are passionate about improving, developing and delivering excellent patient care to a wide range of adults with neurological communication and swallowing disorders in a variety of clinical and domiciliary settings.

Post 1: Band 5
1 year fixed term contract to cover maternity leave (with possibility of extension).
This is an excellent opportunity for a new graduate or someone who has been working for one to two years to develop their skills in providing communication assessment and individual and/ or group therapy to patients with acquired neurological and progressive neurological disorders on the stroke unit, medical and surgical wards at University Hospital North Durham, Durham City and in the community across the north locality of Durham, Chester-le-Street and Derwentside.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, flexible and keen to develop their skills within a multidisciplinary team. The post-holder will be based at University Hospital North Durham. Support and regular clinical supervision by senior staff will be given at the recommended frequency for this grade by Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Professional Guidelines “Communicating Quality 3”.

Post 2: Band 6
Emerging Specialist Speech and Language Therapist.
Permanent contract. (Lease Car may be available if required).
We are looking for an innovative, well-organised Speech and Language Therapist who would like to further develop their existing skills in adult neurology.
The successful candidate will have at least 2 years experience working with adults with acquired neurological disorders and will preferably have completed an accredited post-basic dysphagia course.
The post-holder will be based at Shotley Bridge Hospital in Derwentside and be required to work across the whole of the north locality in a wide variety of settings including Community hospitals, day hospitals, residential homes, nursing homes as well as in patients’ own homes.
The caseload will initially be selected to match the successful candidates existing skill set but with support and regular supervision allow the therapist to acquire new skills in managing more complex and challenging cases through peer support, case discussion and observation of senior staff.

Post 3: Band 7
Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
This is a very attractive position based at the modern teaching University Hospital North Durham for an experienced and enthusiastic therapist who enjoys the challenge of working in a variety of settings and multi-disciplinary teams.
The successful candidate will have been working for at least three years with adults who have suffered an acquired neurological and/or progressive disorder and be in possession of excellent communication and prioritization skills as well as a hold an accredited post-basic dysphagia qualification. An advanced dysphagia qualification would be an advantage, however applications from candidates who do not possess this qualification but are willing to commit to undertake this training would also be welcome.
The post-holder will work in partnership with another Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist allowing ready-access to support, second opinions and on-going peer supervision to deliver evidenced-based best practice assessment and therapy to acute patients on the progressive stroke unit/ medical/ surgical wards. The post also encompasses a highly specialist out-patient assessment clinic and holds a defined complex communication and swallowing community caseload.
The post-holder will help to supervise more junior staff and speech and language therapy students as well as contribute to the delivery of teaching programmes to a wide range of professionals enhancing patient care and the profile of the Speech and Language Therapy service.
