Subject: NEBAEP Study Half Day
16th May p.m. Gateshead Dryden Centre -advance notice
North East Branch of the
Association of Educational Psychologists
Dear colleague
On behalf of the planning group for this event and in advance of more detailed
information and a booking form which will be with you soon, let me encourage
you to put this event (on 16th May p.m.) in your diary:
38 years on - what's coming next?
Local developments in services for children with severe and complex needs
Ian Gale, Consultant Child Psychologist, NTW NHS Trust writes:
The Education Act of 1970 ended the practice of treating children with severe learning difficulties and complex needs as "ineducable" and at last included them into the education system. In the same year I joined the public services as a primary school teacher. After 38 years as a teacher, educational and child psychologist in LEAs and the NHS I am retiring this year. Many changes, hopefully for the better, have occurred over that time but I know there is much still to be done.
With the support of the NEBAEP this short conference aims to provide an opportunity for those supporting this group of children and young people to network and find out about local initiatives.
I hope you can join me on 16th May to share in this time, gain support from meeting others and ..........give me a chance to urge you on!
I worked with Ian during my training as an Educational Psychologist and can vouch for his enthusiasm and real commitment to improving the quality of life and outcomes for this group of children and young people.
I hope you can make it!
