You are invited to attend the following meeting:

 

AAC: Practicalities of Effective Inclusion in Education

 

Venue: Government Office for the North East, Citygate, Gallowgate, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 WU  (map attached)

Date: Monday 10th July 2006     Time: 2.30-5.00 pm 

Aims of group:

·         To promote the successful inclusion of pupils with very severe communication difficulties, in all educational settings, including mainstream and special schools, through the development of supportive communication environments.

·         To support educationalists and therapists in developing "Total communication Environments"

 

Aims of meeting:

·          to identify areas of common interest and develop a plan for 2006-7

Possible areas of discussion:

·       Identify expertise within group

·       Understanding what a "Total Communication Environment" involves

·       Roles & responsibilities

·       Developing a team approach

·       Training requirements

·       Developing augmentative and alternative communication policies in school

·       Developing operational systems within schools regarding systematic language teaching

·       Developing strategies to promote communication e.g. PECS, symbolisation

·       Supporting pupils using communication aids

·       Developing and sharing resources

·       Developing common systems within school, LA, and north of England 

In the first instance we are contacting people who attended the FINE and WIDGIT events and expressed an interest but we would welcome other interested colleagues.
