The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust
Newcastle Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Service

Three vacancies in Newcastle working in our Sure Start Citywide
Speech and Language Therapy Team

Post 1
Speech and Language Therapist spine point 28-30
Full time
Fixed term until 31st March 2007 in the first instance

The Sure Start citywide Speech and Language Therapy team provides an
innovative and integrated speech and language therapy service to the
seven Sure Start Programmes in the city. Due to the development of
several new Children's Centres in the city, additional funding has
been secured to extend the service into these new areas.

This post will include a remit to provide training to early years
settings in the new Children's Centres and also to introduce
initiatives and developments from existing Sure Start Programmes. You
will also have responsibility for one of the established Sure Start
Programmes, as well as assisting the Sure Start lead SLT to
incorporate Sure Start initiatives into mainstream practice across
the city.

You will have at least 4 years post qualification experience,
including working with young children and their families. An
understanding of the ethos and aims of the Sure Start Children's
Centres approach is essential, as is experience of working within a
multidisciplinary team and providing training to other professionals.

The Sure Start speech and language therapy team is an integral part
of the Newcastle Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy service, a
specialist led service offering a high level of personal and
professional support. A car driver is essential.

Speech and Language Therapist spine points 26-28
Full time
Fixed term until 31st March 2007 in the first instance

We have two vacancies for speech and language therapists within the
citywide Sure Start speech and language therapy team. Each post will
work into two Sure Start Children's Centre Programmes in the city,
providing training for early years providers and working with young
children and their families in groups and on an individual basis. You
will be supported by the Sure Start lead SLT and will work with a
designated speech and language support worker in each Sure Start
Programme.

Ideally you will have at least 2 years post qualification experience,
to include working with young children and their families and
providing training to other professionals. However these posts can
also be adapted to make them suitable for newly qualified therapists.
An understanding of the ethos and aims of the Sure Start Children's
Centres approach is essential, and experience of working within a
multidisciplinary team is highly desirable.

The Sure Start speech and language therapy team is an integral part
of the Newcastle Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy service, a
specialist led service offering a high level of personal and
professional support. A car driver is essential.
