Newcastle LEA and Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals (NHS) Trust are working together to develop children’s therapy services within a number of Newcastle special schools. This has created an exciting opportunity for a specialist Speech and Language Therapist OR Occupational Therapist to work closely with the LEA and existing Therapy services to establish new roles.

We are looking for therapists with at least four years experience, a significant part of which will have been spent working with children with a learning disability.

You will work with a team of teaching staff, Therapists and other professionals to deliver a service to children with a range of learning and physical disabilities, and developmental delay within the special schools.

One of the schools has a particularly remit for Autistic Spectrum Disorders and it is anticipated that the Occupational Therapist would be based in this school. Experience of working in Education is essential and you will have a very good knowledge of current issues within Education.

The ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and to implement therapy programmes via other professionals is essential.

Although based in the special schools there are strong links with the Therapists in the Community Children’s Services and the Community Team for Learning Disability. A support and supervision system is in place and there are opportunities for professional development both internally and externally.

For further information contact Deb Lees on 0191 2563085 or Jackie Young on 0191 2563452
