The seventh annual International Stuttering Online Conference opens
October 1 and climaxes on the 22nd, the day designated "International
Stuttering Awareness Day" by the International Fluency Association
(IFA), the International Stuttering Association (ISA), and the
European League of
Stuttering Associations (ELSA). The theme of this year's conference is
"International Year of the Child Who Stutters."
Individuals interested in stuttering, professional therapists as well
as children and adults who stutter and their support persons, will
discuss stuttering in one of the largest professional conferences of
the year. But not face-to-face -- this conference is on the Internet.
Participation is FREE.
For those that would like credit, it is also available for 15 hours
of continuing education or 1 college credit for a fee. (For those
interested in CEUs or credit, information is available through a link
at the top of The Stuttering Home Page --
http://www.stutteringhomepage.com or contact carol.myhre@ mnsu.edu).
Presentations, by consumers and professionals from sixteen countries,
will be posted for reading on the web site. Presentations are
designed for a general audience, and feedback and discussion is
invited through an Internet bulletin board (threaded discussion).
This year's conference also has several special features designed
especially for children and teens who stutter. It is hoped that many
children will be helped to participate actively by their parents and
speech clinicians.
One of the special features for children and teens is a series of
short articles by several adults from around the world who write what
they wish an adult who stutters had told them when they were young.
There will also be two places for people to post appropriate
questions to professors and researchers in the area of fluency and
fluency disorders.
Past conferences have drawn participation from more than 50 different
countries around the world.
The 2004 Conference can be found on the Stuttering Home Page at
http://www.stutteringhomepage.com starting October 1.
Please mark your calendars and plan to show your support to children
and their parents and the professional community that have devoted
many hours to prepare papers and will respond to your
comments/questions.
