Spam problem - changes to group rules.   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #183 of 469 |
You will have received a "spam" message sent to members of this group
by someone who joined solely for this purpose. That member has been
banned and reported to Yahoo and I have deleted the message from the
"message archive".

Although this does not happen very often it is annoying and could
prompt genuine members to leave the group. I have therefore tightened
up the rules and hope that this will solve the problem.

From now on anyone who applies to join the group will be asked to
send an email to the "group owner" (me) explaining briefly why they
want to join. This should weed out the majority of spammers. For
further protection, the first time a member posts a message it will
be sent to the "group owner" for "approval". This should weed out the
rest!

Apologies if this leads to any delay in processing new membership
applications and approving "first time" posts - I should normally be
able to deal with them within 24 hours.

Best wishes,

Liz Panton
