NEWCASTLE APHASIA CLINIC AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION, COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SCIENCES

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SCIENCES

Part-time Experienced Speech and Language Therapist

January 2004-September 2004

£22,191 - £29,621 depending on experience

The Speech and Language Sciences Programme, Newcastle University, is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced speech and language therapist to work part-time in the Newcastle Aphasia Clinic at the University. The successful applicant will join an exciting therapy team providing intensive speech and language therapy services to clients attending the clinic.  During that time, the post holder will contribute to the assessment and selection of clients to the clinic, co-ordinate and provide group therapy to the clients over an 11 week period, or supervise students involved in individual therapy for the clients.

Clinical experience in the area of aphasia is required, as are strong communication and organisational skills. The position provides an excellent opportunity for a clinician to develop skills in the areas of planning and delivering group therapy and/or student supervision, in a supportive environment along side experienced clinicians. We would be happy to facilitate a secondment to promote an excellent CPD opportunity and continued collaboration with the community. We will consider higher rate of salary where appropriate.

The Newcastle Aphasia Clinic at the University was set up in July 1999 to offer an intensive mix of individual and group speech and language therapy to adults with acquired aphasia.  It further provides an excellent educational resource for students on the vocational programmes at Newcastle University. The clinic is a collaboration between Newcastle University and local Speech and Language Therapy services.

For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Julie Morris, Aphasia Clinic Director (0191 222 8659), or Dr Anne Whitworth, Director of Clinical Education, Speech and Language Sciences, Newcastle University (0191 222 8875).

Closing date for applications: 26th November 2003.
