NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

Post 1              Ref RVI/2003/615

Lead Speech and Language Therapist

Part time 17½ hours per week (job share)

Band 3 Spine points 38-40

Fixed term until 31st March 2005 in the first instance

An experienced, enthusiastic and innovative Speech and Language Therapist is required to lead the development of a team of Speech and Language Therapists and SLT Assistants across seven Surestart Programmes within Newcastle city. The team already provides a service to three Surestart Programmes and is being extended to cover seven Programmes within the city.

You would be job sharing with the lead SLT already in post, responsible for three SLTs and a number of SLT Assistants working directly in each Programme, implementing a range of early intervention strategies. A key role will be ensuring the monitoring and evaluation of the Speech and Language Therapy input to the Programmes.

A clear understanding of the ethos and aims of Surestart is essential as is substantial experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and of providing training to both parents and professionals. Some management experience would be desirable.

The Surestart Speech and Language Therapy team is an integral part of the Newcastle Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy service, a specialist led service offering a high level of personal and professional support. A car driver is essential.

Speech and Language Therapist

Full time

(points 19-25 available for less experienced SLT)

Fixed term until 31st March 2005 in the first instance

Newcastle has seven Surestart Programmes within the city and we are establishing a team of Speech and Language Therapists and SLT Assistants to work across all the Programmes.

We are looking for two Speech and Language Therapists who would like to develop their skills in working with pre school children and their families to join us. A senior Speech and Language Therapist heads the team and you would be working within two to three multidisciplinary Surestart Programmes, to implement and evaluate a range of early intervention strategies.

A clear understanding of the ethos and aims of Surestart is required and an essential part of the post will be to provide training to parents and professionals.

The Surestart Speech and Language Therapy team is an integral part of the Newcastle Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy service, a specialist led service offering a high level of personal and professional support. A car driver is essential.

This post requires at least two years postgraduate paediatric experience, but could be adapted to suit a newly or recently qualified therapist.
