Looking to develop your experience within a large, dynamic multi‑disciplinary team?
We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible speech and language therapist who has interest and knowledge in the areas of adults or children with learning disabilities. You will join eight speech and language therapy colleagues in a well-established, multi-disciplinary health team based in Newcastle upon Tyne. The team consists of Clinical Psychologists, Community Nurses and Physiotherapists.
You should have:
- Knowledge and experience in this field;
- Knowledge and experience of A.A.C and multi‑model communication;
- Knowledge and experience of dysphagia management;
- A commitment to the implementation of ‑Valuing People" and an understanding of current strategies and philosophies within this client group. Experience of providing training within your specialism to a wide audience.
You will liaise closely with fellow professionals to address communication disorders as part of a holistic, client‑centred service. Based at a resource centre in Newcastle, you will have a varied caseload, working in special schools, day centres and client's homes and opportunities to contribute to a range of wider projects.
You will receive regular support, training and many opportunities to develop and extend clinical management skills. Continuing professional development is not an option, it's essential.
The SLT service continues to be professionally managed and there are two speech and language therapy assistants and good administration support with whom you will work.
You will find yourself in a team that's eager to support you, and the role of the speech and language therapist.
In a role this challenging, you will work hard. But in a city as vibrant as Newcastle, you will probably play hard too.
To talk informally about this role, you can call Caroline Wills, Manager, Department of Communication, on (0191) 219 6800.
Application by application form. Job description and relevant forms available from the Personnel Department, Northgate & Prudhoe NHS Trust, Northgate Hospital, Morpeth NE61 3BP. Tel: (01670) 394 246 (answer phone). To be returned to the Personnel Department (address as above).
Closing date: 21st July 2003.
The Trust is a family friendly organisation, is an equal opportunity
employer and holds the Investors in People Award.
We operate a non smoking policy.
