Because of guys like you, some of whom live in areas where there are very few services or support networks for gay men living with HIV/AIDS, or there are none period.
Let's be honest, the last 7 years has not been a period of good government support nationally or locally for programs that reach out to poz guys here in the US. And internationally regional governments have been at times overwhelmed with the increases in number of HIV+ gay men that they are serving. SIN is an effective and cost-efficient way for one poz guy to help another by sharing information via email about life-saving medical news or resources or by helping each other meet in person for invaluable face-to-face human interaction and morale support.
Yesterday I was speaking with Jeremy who lives in Oklahoma City, where their only local HIV group was about to disband for lack of funding. But now they have decided to follow the SIN model and start a chapter there to continue their fellowship with a renewed sense of purpose and thousands of new friends throughout the SIN network to turn to for ideas and guidance. SIN has expanded to over 40 cities in 5 years with new requests made every week, so now is the time that SIN as an organization must start collecting funding to keep this growth going. These funds will help us throughout SIN in creating promotional materials for local SIN chapters, such as OK City or particularly other areas with limited funding (such as Bogota, Columbia), and improving our web operations and outreach.
