Since many have expressed interest in my Underachiever silver gen, and since
it IS so simple, perhaps I can explain it here. See if this makes sense to
you:
silver anode >alligator______LED___+9V-___+9V-______alligator< silver
cathode
{distilled water completes the ciruit}
No switch -- just connect and disconnect the alligator clips.
I have used automotive speaker wire, which is the same guage as the leads on
the battery clips and LED, connected with wire nuts (very small, grey). It
helps to have a decent wire stripper -- I recommend the Milwaukee Clipper,
available at Ace hardware stores.
Threading the wire through the handles of the alligator clips is one of the
trickier bits. Also, be sure to test your connections at every step. Wire
the LED in first for an easy indicator of a complete circuit -- and remember
that the D in LED stands for Diode. A diode is a one-way gate -- if you put
it in backward it will not light, plus it will interrupt the circuit.
I use 6" .9999 pure silver wire electrodes with a 90 degree bend at the
tops, suspended over (and into) a pint jar by a block of wood with holes
drilled at center, 1" apart (sanded & cleaned).
Just uploaded my old MS Paint diagram to:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/silverdatawebsite/files/
I can also copy & paste directions for use, if anyone thinks that may help.
Try the design out, then judge the quality of product yourselves.
To your health!
