Description
Moving to China is hard enough not knowing the culture, language and without a proper support network; but it’s even harder for parents of children with food allergies. Thus, Shanghai Food Allergies Support Group (SFASG) was born to offer the families support network, share food allergies resources, increase awareness and educate the expatriate and local community (especially our schools and hospitals) about food allergies, and to have emergency procedures firmly in place should a life threatening event occur.
Our members include parents of children with all levels of food allergies (e.g. life threatening peanut allergies, severe baby eczema and/or food intolerances). Our meetings consists of discussions on where to shop, products that have helped us, education, finding doctors, swapping recipes, travel and etc. It’s our goal to bring speakers such as pediatric specialists, organic producers, nutritionist, dietitian, alternative therapists and others.
We also have a medical advisor who visits our group twice a year to give us the latest information on allergies and/or answer general questions related to allergies.
SFASG is headed by Susan Vincent and Junko Sueyoshi. All of our team members contribute time and resources into making this group beneficial to all. We are NOT trained professional but all of us have personal experiences in dealing/living with food allergies. We are committed in increasing the quality of life for family members with food allergies living in Shanghai.
