Subject: [Selective Mutism Support Group] Please Help

My child gets uncomfortable when attition is brought to him, he will
turn or tilt his head away from you, look at the ground, he will look
at you with a blank stare or expressionless look it is almost like he
is ignoring you. he has bit the finger nails almost completely off of
all the fingers on both hands. His main problem is in school or when he
is around people outside of the family. sometimes he even does it aboud
me and his father and siblings. His teacher is saying he is
disrespectful and will not participate in class discussions his grade
are dropping because of this, and it has made my son cry and refuse to
go to school. I have always passed this off as just being shy, But it
has gotten worse and I am concerned that there is something seriously
wrong. Could this be an anxiety problem? And if not what is wrong with
my child? I am at a loss and don't know what to do to help my child.
That is the worst feeling in the world. Please help me.
Melissa
