Re: [Selective Mutism Support Group] Selective Mutism Diagnoses

I am from south-western Ontario but did not know what you meant by the
"Kinark Child and Family Services". So, I looked it up and it seems to
be similar to CPRI - Child and Parent Resource Institute in London,
Ontario. We had our child diagnosed at CPRI in London by a child
psychiatrist. From what I read on the internet, I think Kinark Child
and Family Services would be an excellent place to start. We had to get
a referral from our family doctor to get an appointment at CPRI (he
marked it "urgent") and so we were able to see the child psychiatrist in
about one month's time. If the center in your area is not familiar with
selective mutism, I expect they will know where to send you to get help
(as Gail said in one of her e-mails, there are experts re selective
mutism in Ontario; although you might have to drive a couple of hours).
A specialist as a child psychiatrist, child psychologist or child
neurologist should be able to help you. By the way, our child was
diagnosed over six years ago and today she is flourishing. Please let
us know how thing go - I wish you the best -

Joan
