Absolutely! I have thought about homeschooling now more than ever, since my son
is now having a hard time even getting to school. I am at a lose for what to do
next. I am having a hard time trying to find any therapists that deal with sm in
my area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: [Selective Mutism Support Group] School meeting for my daughter

I met with my daughters teacher, principal and school phsycologist
today. My husband went with me which was great. I really felt we
made progress with the teacher and i feel good about that. The
physcologist has never met our daughter. he says he has had
experience with 3 other children with sm. We shared about our
dughter and showed them pictures of her laughing and playing and
some examples of her artwork. We answered questions about Amanda
and the phy. really was most interested in the fact that she will
not even talk about school at home. I understand this because my
dsughter is bright and I think she realizes that that will put her
in a vulnerable position. He actually told us that he thinks our
daughter may have some traits of ODD - oposition defiant disorder.
I did not like what I was hearing and came home a researched. I was
really upset to read the traits of ODD. It was quite disturbing and
also a condition which is primarily a problem between the child and
adults they know well. I can say that SM and ODD should not be
confused. My daughter is not defient and is as sweet as could be.
Needless to say we are proceeding with an evaluation from a
proffesional outside the school system. We are going to go a day at
a time. the teacher seems to really be open now and has even said
she would visit at home and bring her daughter who is just a year
older than Amanda.

Has anyone every considered homeschooling as a option???
